POLICY DEVELOPMENT

There is a talent to writing effective “working at heights” policy.  The policy must build on what is required by local health and safety regulations without contradicting them.   It must clearly define responsibilities of the employer, managers, supervisor, foreman and workers.  It must focus on hazard assessment and preventative measures but also must define the actions that are taken in an emergency.  The steps required to deal with a fallen worker or a worker at height with a medical problem has to be carefully considered and the planning has to be done prior to the work beginning.  Policy must define what training and practice is required to ensure competency..
